How to make tube watercolours 🎨⚗️👨🏻‍🔬
#organicchemistry #watercolor #diy
Hi! A household preparation of some watercolor paints. You can actually do it yourself with the reagents you see in the video, they are pretty easy to find out on the internet and in shops.
Pigments compositions:
Blue: Prussian Blue + Milori Blue
Green: PB15:30 + PY12 + PW18
Yellow: PY3 + PW18
Red: PR112 + PW21

Synthesis of butyric acid (Smell of rancid cheese & vomit). Sulfochromic method 🤮⚗️🧀
Переглядів 4 тис.2 роки тому
#chemistry #synthesis #organicchemistry Hi there to all of you people! This time was a smelly experiment. My lab coat has the smell of vomit after this one, so please give a huge like!!! Jokes aside, was a tedious experiment as this is not the ideal procedure for the synthesis of this compound. Ideally another solvent should be used instead of ethyl acetate as it likes water more than DCM for e...
How much salt in seawater? Precipitation titration 🌊🧂🥼

#chemistry #analysis #titration Time for another classical method of analysis. I really love classical methods for their elegance, and this one is no exception. The Mohr's method is a type of argentometric method for analysing halides in water. During vacation I sampled some water to analyse it some day, so here it is all the process. I am pretty happy with the result so I hope you enjoy all th...

How much acetic acid in vinegar? Acid-Base titration🥗👨‍🔬🍇
Переглядів 9 тис.4 роки тому
#chemistry #titration #experiment Time for a new series of videos. Never did an analytical chemistry video in my channel so hope you like it! We will start from the basic acid-base titration. Very useful technique that can be used to determine both weak and strong acid and bases on liquid samples. In this case I determined the acid content in a white vinegar but it can be used for other things ...

Why did you need to use hexane as a solvent? Shouldn't the essential oil already be immiscible with the water to begin with?

For oceanography, salinity is determined by conductivity at a known temp then calculated. Salinity is unitless but can be referred as practical salinity units PSU. Common Instrumentation: Guildline 8400B instrument - stable enough to use at sea.

this pigment turned out absolutely gorgeous! another thing worth noting is the fact that because it's mineral-based, it's extremely lightfast so it has an archival quality that can allow it to be preserved for years, even decades! good news for any artist that is looking to use it in their worl

🤚I want to ask🤚 Still understanding about liquid distillation separation of pure compounds So the sample I use contains two ingredients, namely: Theophylline & Paracetamol and the solvent I use: Ethanol & Aquades, here are the details of the Boiling Point Ethanol : 78 °C Aquades: 100 °C Theophylline : 390 °C Paracetamol : 420 °C If I want to separate the Theophylline compound, After I heat the filtrate in a distillation tube After the thermometer temperature reaches 78°C, the liquid that drips is Ethanol👈 up to a temperature of 99°C, and at a temperature of 100°C what comes out is Aquades👈 up to a temperature of 389°C👈, at a temperature of 390°C this is Theopiline liquid it comes out to 419°c👈 What I want to ask is, are the steps I explained correct? 🙏 because I'm still a little confused about the comparison between Filtrate & Solvent? Who knows, someone can explain a little to me🙏

Secondly, what you think about using reflux method for this? And lastly did you conduct UV-vis measurement for the yielded complex? Thanks in advance

As for the gas evolution: It most likely is a mixture of gasses. Most likely oxygen, ammonia and water. The oxygen coming from the manganese salt, ammonia from the decomposition of ammoniumdiphosphate and water from the phosphoric acid as it becomes more concentrated and forms polyphosphate species

Every time you transfer from one container to another, you're losing some. Even with your hexane wash, which is superfluous by the way and at $200 a litre, completely unnecessary. Your yield was probably lower than it should have been due to this. Also, if you can avoid boiling your starting material in the heating vessel and instead passing steam through your material in an entirely separate vessel, your recovery will be better. I would also distill any batch for a minimum of 3hrs, as I've noticed it takes time for cellular membranes to rupture and release their goods. I've noticed a substantial increase of distillate towards the last 45 min or so of that 3 hrs, so maybe you also didn't run your setup long enough.

  • @Max_Chooch

His distillate should be emptying straight into a separation funnel as it would allow for the immediate separation of essential oils from hydrosol and no need for hexane

The endpoint was overshot. A correct phenolphthalein endpoint is a faint pink which fades in 20 or 30 seconds due to absorbtion of CO2 from the air.
